Instead of fighting Labor Day traffic, the place to be this weekend is downtown Chicago at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park and across Michigan Avenue at the Chicago Cultural Center.

The two venues are hosting the 38th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival Sept 1-4, 2016. Produced by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with the Jazz Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Jazz Festival is free.

Among the headliners are Orbert Davis’ Soul Migration on Thursday, Oliver Lake and Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra conducted by Carla Bley on Friday and The Bad Plus along with Anat Cohen Quartet and Eric Alexander/Harold Mabern Quartet on Saturday. Candido’s birthday celebration with M.F. Production’s Latin All Stars is Sunday.

Hours are noon to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 1, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 2, 3 and 4. For other information visit Jazz Festival.
